Dynamic Positioning
Dynamic Positioning (DP) is a computer-controlled system that automatically maintains a vessel’s position and heading. Noble Offshore provides DP assurance services, including failure mode and effects analyses (FMEA) and failure mode, effects and criticality analyses (FMECA).
Using a core team of highly qualified individuals working to exacting standards, Noble Offshore provides superior independent technical reviews of state-of-the-art marine systems. Noble Offshore’s clients include oil companies, ship owners, shipyards and specialist equipment vendors. Noble Offshore’s Dynamic Positioning (DP) assurance and FMEA/FMECA services are now used on all types of offshore support vessel, from large drill ships to smaller high-speed offshore crew boats.Noble Offshore personnel share considerable expertise in both vessel operations and engineering knowledge; this, coupled with the ability to analyse complex issues in a challenging environment makes ours a winning team.Noble Offshore works to international, national, class and IMCA standards as well as equipment-specific regulations, such as those for diving or crane equipment. We also maintain our own extensive guidance notes which are used by our experts on many technically challenging projects. The assurance process covers a number of different areas, including:
- DP annual proving trials according to the IMCA standard
- Common Marine Inspection Document (CMID)
- IMCA standard
- DP incidents and equipment failure
- Investigations
- Saturation diving system design audits
- Charter suitability studies, including regulatory
- GAP analysis
- Safety, ISM and SMS development, including compliance audits and training
- Risk studies, including Safety Case, HAZID, HAZOP and FMECA
- DP manuals, procedures and training
- DP capability and thruster sizing studies
The FMEA/FMECA analysis process is now used to determine the safety, reliability and redundancy of many systems, including:
- DP positioning and DP-related marine systems
- Semi-submersible ballast systems
- Saturation diving systems
- Pipe Ray systems; ‘S’ and ‘J’ configurations
- Deepwater cranes and ‘A’ frames
- Shuttle tanker bar loading systems
- Drilling-related equipment
